Case Study: Government / Industry Supply Chain Security Test-bed

“Container traffic is critical to the health of our economy, but we do not know enough about what is in the more than 6 million containers that enter our nation each year.  This initiative will ensure the security of the containers that will pass through our ports and on to America's highways and railways.” Sen. Patty Murray, Chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee.

"We found that each supply chain is unique and very dynamic," Murray continued. "The players change often and market forces have a significant impact on how those players change.”

Challenge:

  • Track shipments from their origination point to a distribution center in the U.S.,  as the products travel by truck, train and ship, and monitor and analyze security.
  • Implement a platform to measure and evaluate  new processes and procedures that have the potential to increase the security of container shipments
  • Identify existing vulnerabilities in the supply chain and develop improved methods for ensuring the security of cargo entering the United States.

Solution:

GreenLine Systems deployed its Data Pipeline, Asset Manager and Observation Manager applications to integrate input from a wide range of data sources deriving from many types of logistics activities into unified shipment and handling lifecycles.

  • Ocean carrier portal information including: booking confirmations, carrier status messages and bills of lading.

  • Status and location messages from numerous detection and sensing technologies including container security devices, global positioning systems (GPS), RFID devices and e-seals.

  • Field observations including inspections and assessments of cargo and facilities

Using this information, GreenLine then used its risk management frameworks and Analysis Workbench application to create actionable intelligence about trust and risk related to the movement of cargo destined for the United States.

GreenLine Systems was selected for four demonstration projects, and tested more transactions and more scenarios than any other technology of its kind.

Benefits:

  • Interoperability with the widest range of  advanced technologies
  • Integration of disparate sources of supply chain data
  • Rapid customization and deployment (less than 6 months)
  • Flexible, scalable, integrated solution
